Night in the Botanical Garden

Night in the Botanical Garden is a free evening event where you can search for plants with pale petals and enticing scents while keeping an eye out for bats, hunting spiders, and night butterflies.

Plants of the Night
In the Botanical Workshop in the Education Greenhouse, you can sow and plant your own flowers for night butterflies - ready to take home to your garden or balcony. You can also design your own nocturnal hybrid plant in the fantasy herbarium workshop: assemble plant parts on cardboard and take it home to press and dry for a herbarium sheet.

Bats
In the bat education pavilion, researchers and educators display specimens from the museum's collection and tell about the species' way of life. You can learn about bat detection, where ultrasonic frequencies are converted into sounds we humans can perceive. Performance artist and ambassador for the brown long-eared bat, Linh Le, offers several activities:
- 3:15 PM - 4:00 PM: Listen to bat sounds and draw a sonogram (free ticket required)
- 6:30 PM - 7:15 PM: The poetic meditation 'Transformation into a Bat' (free ticket required)
- 8:00 PM - 8:20 PM: Performance by Linh Le
- 8:35 PM - 9:00 PM: Twilight walk with bats in the dusk (free ticket required)

Mammals, Birds, Insects and Spiders
In the garden's education pavilions, you can meet the night's mammals and birds from the museum's collection, test yourself on animal sounds and match the sound to the right animal. At the insect and spider station, researchers display small creatures from the collection, and you can follow along as they hunt with nets in the garden - and meet the giant model spider.

Mini-tours
There are free 30-minute guided tours about the night's plants and pollinators, or about the Living Space project. Tickets are distributed at the information booth on the day.

All activities are free. Tickets for mini-tours, sonogram workshop, poetic meditation and twilight walk are also free and distributed at the information booth on the day on a first-come, first-served basis. Remember your flashlight.
