Køs & Forfatterspirerne | Open Listening #4 & Jazz Listening Club

Roskilde Library marks the season finale for both Open Listening and the Jazz Listening Club with a shared evening. The electroacoustic jazz trio Køs performs live while young writers from Roskilde Gymnasium read their own texts.

Køs knows the genre well: the trio previously recorded the album "Out of One Mouth" with poet Pia Tafdrup, where jazz improvisations meet a selection of Tafdrup's poems read by her. For this evening, it is the young writers' own texts that form the starting point, while Køs creates the musical soundscape live.

The young writers are a group of students from Roskilde Gymnasium who meet during breaks to work with texts together - through reading, reflection and experiments. Throughout the autumn they have worked with two Danish teachers to prepare the texts for the evening's readings.

During the evening there is room for music recommendations and conversations about poetry, jazz and working with art and literature. Note: the concert is recorded live for later release on the library's record label Haralda Records.

About Køs
Køs is a young trio with free improvisation at its core. In an electroacoustic universe, sound from saxophone and drums is mixed, bent and manipulated so the instruments melt together, stand apart or form entirely new sounds. P8 Jazz's Naya Buric has written about them: "Lyrical, edgy, exploratory. The band Køs is part of the vital Copenhagen underground where improvisation and experimentation are the framework."

About Open Listening
This season the Music Library becomes a laboratory for experiments and conversations about music and art. Young voices from Roskilde's music and art scenes open their worlds and bring their own work and music that inspires them - records, CDs, tapes and online music that listeners experience together. The season includes lyrical Nordic jazz, modern dansktop, poetry and live-improvised electrojazz. Selected concerts are recorded and released on the library's record label.
