Workshop for Improvisation in Dance and Music - Unpacking the Parameters — Valby Kulturhus, Copenhagen

This two-day workshop brings together musicians and dancers of all levels to explore shared improvisation and spontaneous composition. The focus is on parameters that cross both art forms - time, space, dynamics, dramaturgy, listening, breathing, the sensing body, imagination and more - and on creating space to discuss differences and challenges, so that mutual influence emerges between music and dance.

There is no single approach to improvisation that works for everyone. The workshop therefore offers room to try different ideas: some from participants' own experience, some passed on from mentors and teachers, and some that arise spontaneously along the way. Learning to improvise requires time and space to "fail", experiment and see things from new angles - and it requires regular practice and building trust. You don't need to be a virtuoso; the most important thing is to show up with curiosity and generosity.

Each workshop day ends with an hour of stage performance, where doors open to the audience. Improvisation is not just an exercise in the studio or in a closed group - it is also a performance form in itself.
