Special Tour: The Sound of Hajra Waheed

A special guided tour focusing on a single work: HUM (2020) by Hajra Waheed. Instead of moving quickly through an exhibition, this format slows down the pace entirely - we listen slowly and attentively, exploring together what emerges in thoughts, sensory impressions and associations when you take time with one work. Museum visitors spend on average 8 seconds on each work; this is precisely what we want to challenge.

HUM (2020) is the first work in Waheed's trilogy of multi-channel sound installations. The work is composed of humming and other vocal sounds produced with closed lips. All participating singers and songwriters have lived experiences with imprisonment and censorship, and many have been driven into exile - their songs spring from stories of state violence, genocide and mass uprisings in the struggle for liberation.

Hajra Waheed (b. 1980) is a Canadian artist based in Montreal. HUM is part of the exhibition The Sound of at Vaskeriet, which presents works by, among others, Hanne Lippard, Clara Mosconi, Julian Abraham 'Togar', Emeka Ogboh, Cally Spooner, Francesco Fonassis, Arendse Krabbe and Annika Kahrs. The exhibition was created in collaboration with Moderna Museet Malmö.
