About

HUM (2020) is a multichannel sound installation by Canadian-Pakistani artist Hajra Waheed, and the first work in her trilogy on voice and censorship. It is composed entirely of humming and other closed-lip vocal sounds made by singers and songwriters who have lived experience of imprisonment, exile and state violence. Their songs carry stories of genocide and mass uprising - voiced without words, because the words could not be spoken aloud.
