Taboo Thursday: Oh My Gut!
Hovedbiblioteket i Aalborg, Aalborg · Free
According to the Colitis-Crohn Association, around 1,000,000 Danes suffer from bowel diseases - often starting in childhood or adolescence. This Taboo Thursday focuses on the chronic, autoimmune and inflammatory bowel diseases Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis.
Diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, bloody stools and the risk of soiling yourself are part of everyday life for many with Crohn's or Colitis. These diseases are heavily stigmatized - who really talks about how much can come out in a day, or what you do when you're stuck somewhere without a toilet nearby?
That evening, people living with these conditions open up about their worries, pain and the shame that comes with them.
Taboo Thursdays are a series of events with open conversations about society's taboos. You can participate in the conversation or simply listen. The event takes place in Folkestuen at Aalborg Main Library.
