Into the Unknown: Individuation in Disney's 'Frozen' 1 & 2

Annette Wernblad is an international expert in film and literature who has taught for over 25 years on the archetypal and transformative power of storytelling - at Copenhagen University, Folkeuniversitetet, the Jung Institute in Copenhagen, and the Jung Association Copenhagen.

In this lecture, she explores Frozen 1 and 2 as a unified narrative about individuation: the psychological process the two sisters undergo to become their true selves. The analysis focuses on Elsa and Anna, what each represents archetypally, and how Disney uses symbolism and mythological patterns to tell a psychological story about fear, sisterhood, division, calling, and inner transformation.
