The Reformation - The Danish Cultural Revolution — Støberihallerne - Præstø Bibliotek og Borgerservice, Præstø

When the Reformation took hold in 1536, Denmark was transformed overnight. The structures that had sustained society - faith, community, morality, and religious rituals - were swept away by law. Processions, saint days, and pilgrimages were branded as "monkish delusion", "trickery and plunder", and "complete madness". From then on, Lutheranism was mandatory: everyone had to memorize Luther's catechism and obey every authority without question.

This lecture examines how this radical upheaval unfolded in practice, and whether its legacy can still be traced in Danish society and culture today.

The event is organized in collaboration with Vordingborg Folkeuniversitet.
