Ella Marie Hætta Isaksen - The Sámi Struggle for the Arctic
Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke, Copenhagen
Ella Marie Hætta Isaksen is a Sámi activist, artist, and musician and one of the most prominent voices in debates about green transition and indigenous rights. She has led protests against wind farm projects, mining, and other industrial developments on Sámi lands, and has questioned whether climate action can justify violations against peoples who have lived north of the Arctic Circle for millennia.
The conversation focuses on the Sámi struggle for the right to land, culture, and self-determination - including the consequences of Arctic oil extraction and mining for reindeer herding and fishing, and how indigenous knowledge can play a role in solving the climate crisis. The conversation is held in English.
