Author Talk: The Struggle for Freedom - The World 25 Years After 9/11
What do we mean when we say we are fighting for freedom? Which freedom - and whose freedom?
On September 11, 2001, Martin Krasnik came of age twice in one day: his worldview collapsed along with the Twin Towers, and he became a father. Twenty-five years later, he has written the personal essay "The Shining City - On Freedom in the 21st Century", in which he examines how the idea of freedom has been challenged - from the aftermath of terror and wars in the Middle East and Ukraine to the internal pressure on liberal democracy in the USA and Europe. His argument is that resistance to freedom exists everywhere, including within ourselves.
At Roskilde Library on September 11, you will meet Krasnik for a conversation about the book and the world after 2001, seen through his eyes. There will be an opportunity for questions and dialogue, and the book can subsequently be reserved at the library or purchased.
Martin Krasnik (b. 1971) holds a degree in political science from the University of Copenhagen, is a former correspondent and journalist at Weekendavisen and regular host of DR2's Deadline. Today he is editor-in-chief of Weekendavisen.
