CopenOpen Poetry Slam

CopenOpen is an open poetry slam held every third Friday of the month at HUSET in Copenhagen. You can participate as an audience member or as a slammer. Entry costs 50 kr. and is paid at the door.

Want to slam? Sign up by sending a private message to CopenOpen on their Facebook page from the 1st of each month - only for the next event. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and slammers must arrive 15 minutes before the show starts, as the performance order is drawn by lot.

The format consists of ten slammers in the first round and six in the second. Points from both rounds are combined, and the three with the most points advance to the final, where points are reset. The audience awards points between 0 and 10. Slammers must not know the judges beforehand.

The rules are simple: the text must be written by the slammer themselves, and costumes, props, and musical instruments are not allowed. Maximum performance time is 3 minutes and 10 seconds - if exceeded, a time penalty of ½ point per started 10 seconds is given. Freestylers get an extra minute to collect words from the audience, but this must be announced to the host before the show starts. All participating slammers receive two beer vouchers.

As it goes: the point is not the points - the point is the poetry.
