Winter Children and Motherhood - lecture: Wednesday 4 November 2026, 16:30–18:00, Hovedbiblioteket, Aarhus. Admission is free.
Historian and author Pernille Ipsen examines Dea Trier Mørch and the novel Winter Children, which was published on November 2, 1976 - 50 years ago. The lecture explores what nerve of the times Mørch struck with her story about women, pregnancy, and childbirth - and the vision of community and care that made the novel a thematic breakthrough in literature.
Winter Children sold over 100,000 copies in just a few months and has since been translated into 22 languages. With its iconic design, it has achieved classic status, and in 2026 Dea Trier Mørch has been named author of the year by klassikerdagen.dk.
The lecture is based on Pernille Ipsen's forthcoming biography Spring - Dea Trier Mørch in Art and Life. The event takes place in the Main Hall and is organized in collaboration with the Danish Library Association.
