Artificial intelligence is already part of everyday life - it writes code, accelerates research, and challenges our creativity in ways that would have seemed unthinkable just a few years ago. But the technology has a dark side: AI is used for cyberattacks and misinformation, built into weapons systems, and amplifies the biases it was trained on. Add to this the fact that training itself relies on underpaid workers in the Global South and data centres with massive consumption of electricity and water.

The lecture attempts to balance technological enthusiasm and doomsday sentiment, painting a nuanced picture of where we stand. The conclusion is twofold: stay informed so you understand the world AI is changing - and use the technology with measure, so you always weigh whether the benefit matches the resource consumption.
