My Name is Joop (from age 10)
Tingbjerg Bibliotek\Kulturhus, Copenhagen
In September 1945, the Jewish-Dutch boy Joop arrives in Denmark - only 9 years old and alone, after two years in German concentration camps. He is to stay with a Danish foster family for recuperation. Now 89, Joop's personal memories have become a monologue for children from 4th grade and up: honest and direct, but with room for humour and a child's hopeful view of the world.
The performance is staged simply in close dialogue with the children. Since its premiere in September 2023, it has been performed 90 times at schools and small theatres.
There are two performances on Monday, 5 October: 10:00 and 12:00. The venue is Salen at Tingbjerg Library and Cultural Centre, Skolesiden 4, 2700 Brønshøj. Admission is free - registration is via Teatermagi Tingbjerg on the ticket link.
The performance is part of the Teatermagi festival during the autumn break (week 42), supported by the Augustinus Foundation and Copenhagen's Performing Arts Committee.
