The Bear - A Release Party
What happens when a lonely archivist takes responsibility for an old bear over the summer - isolated on an island in northern Canada? Can you take the bear swimming? Can it fill a void deep within the soul?
On September 24, Feberdrøm celebrates the release of 'The Bear' by Marian Engel, in a new Danish translation by Jamie McIntyre. The evening features readings, free drinks while supplies last (then Støberiet's honour bar), the chance to buy the book at a good price, and a bear corner (what is it?!).
We also meet another furry creature: Ida Johanne Baunkjær reads from her novel 'Gloria's Hand', which she is currently working on. It tells the story of Runa, a registrar at a museum, who one day finds a preserved human hand in the archive. The discovery draws her into the archives and the story of Gloria Vogel - and slowly the systems she has devoted her life to begin to crack. Ida reads an excerpt where a fox suddenly appears.
About the novel itself: Lou, a lonely bibliographer, spends the summer in an octagonal house on a remote island in northern Ontario, where she is to catalogue Colonel Cary's library. Everything seems trustworthy - until the harbour master Homer asks: "Has anyone told you about the bear?" The cover is drawn by Signe Wohlfeil.
The event is free and takes place at Støberiet, Korsgade 30. Everyone is welcome.
