BEAM SPLITTER + Phil Minton (US/UK/NO)
Audrey Chen: vocals · Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø: trombone/electronics · Phil Minton: vocals
Two duos meet in a trio of closely miked mouth sounds and breath-driven escapades - raw double vocals and trombone combined with Monotron, feedback and sound files. Minton and Chen have sung together since 2005, while Nørstebø and Chen formed BEAM SPLITTER in 2015. As an occasional trio, the three have performed in the UK, USA, Portugal, Ukraine, Germany, Argentina and Brazil. Their debut album as a trio, "wrists out" - an unedited concert recording from Portugal - was released on the Lisbon-based label Robalo Music in 2024. The music draws on impulses from Mingus, Zappa, Stravinsky, Genesis, Kate Bush, King Crimson and Miles Davis. Since its inception, the ensemble has released five albums, and the latest, "Mining at Fasching…and elsewhere", won the Swedish Manifest Prize for best Swedish jazz album in 2025.
