From 112 to the Hospital: Tuesday 1 December 2026, 19:00–21:00, Multikulturhuset, Sønderborg. Tickets cost 135 kr.
Dr. Maren Tarpgaard works as an emergency physician on the rapid response ambulance and emergency helicopter. In this lecture, she shares stories from her daily work in pre-hospital emergency care - a profession where no two shifts are alike, and where patients come from all ages and walks of life, with every conceivable injury, illness, and outcome.
During a shift, you carry a radio at all times and must be ready to respond within seconds - around the clock, often under difficult conditions: cramped spaces, poor lighting, limited equipment, and sparse information about the patient. Treatment happens everywhere: in patients' homes, on roadsides, in nightlife venues, on top of a wind turbine, or en route in the helicopter. Quick decisions based on incomplete information are the rule rather than the exception, and coordination between ambulances, rapid response units, and helicopters is crucial for treatment quality.
Maren Tarpgaard also explains what happens when someone calls 112: who answers, how needs are assessed, and how pre-hospital resources are prioritized according to the goal of "right help at the right time for all patients." Along the way, she shares stories about the defibrillator network and anecdotes from critical incidents - including what it takes to handle the shift between calm and intense focus multiple times in a single day without losing empathy.
