When mental illness is part of family life, everyday routines can become difficult and unpredictable - and some children risk being overlooked in the process.

This thematic evening focuses on family life with mental illness and how to see and support all children in the family. A central concept is the shadow child: the child who adapts, shows consideration, or becomes invisible in an attempt to hold the family together.

Sine and Mathilde, mother and daughter, share their experiences from the period when Mathilde's older sister was ill with schizophrenia. They raise the questions: What can parents do to be present for both the sick and the healthy children? And how do you support each other - within and outside the family?

Ellen Henriksen from Psykiatriens Hus in Aarhus discusses the possibilities for getting help and provides practical tools for talking about mental illness in the family, including how to strengthen dialogue and create space for difficult conversations.
