Literary Saturday: Knut Hamsun with Klaus Rothstein
Øbro Jagtvej Bibliotek, Copenhagen · 75 kr. · ≈ 10 €
Knut Hamsun with Klaus Rothstein: Saturday 6 February 2027, 14:00–16:00, Øbro Jagtvej Bibliotek, Copenhagen. Tickets cost 75 kr.
Knut Hamsun is regarded as one of the greatest writers of the Nordic region and received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1920. During a stay in Copenhagen, he lived in a cramped room on Sankt Hans Gade, where in deep poverty he wrote the opening chapters of his breakthrough work Hunger. With novels such as Pan and Victoria, he renewed the modern novel through psychological depth, intense nature descriptions, and depictions of the modern individual's inner conflict.
His life also contains a dark chapter: during World War II, he harbored strong sympathies for Nazism, which after the war led to a trial for treason. He himself brought his life's work to a close with the memoir On Overgrown Paths in 1949.
Klaus Rothstein - literary critic at Weekendavisen, essayist and experienced communicator with a background from the Royal Library and numerous literary radio programmes and podcasts - guides us through Hamsun's life and literary work.
Tickets cost 75 kr. and include coffee and pastry. The event takes place on the 3rd floor. Tickets are not refunded unless the conditions for the event change.
