Journalist Knud Holmboe was known in his time as Denmark's Lawrence of Arabia. His dramatic expedition through North Africa and the Italian colony of Libya in 1930 made him world-famous - and his subsequent book "The Desert Burns" was translated into several languages because of its scathing critique of the fascists' treatment of the Bedouins.
