KlimaCafé: Lise Coermann Mathiesen lecture: Monday 26 October 2026, 17:00–19:00, Hovedbiblioteket, Aarhus. Admission is free.
When did we start confusing a good life with more consumption? And how did growth become our primary goal?
Starting from these questions, Lise Coermann Mathiesen points out a series of fundamental contradictions in modern society. Growth originally described the unfolding of life - today we measure it in economic activity and resource extraction. This creates a desperate paradox: the more successful society becomes by its own standards, the greater the pressure on nature.
This raises the question of whether it is even possible to organize a society where the most important thing is not to produce and consume more. Lise Coermann Mathiesen examines the possibilities and challenges of a green transition to a sustainable life society - and the audience is welcome to contribute to the conversation.
