Federico - 90 Years After the Murder · Union, Copenhagen

Federico - Theater, Flamenco and Music: Saturday 21 November 2026, 20:00–22:00, Union, Copenhagen. Tickets cost 120 kr.

Ninety years after the murder of Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca, over 30 Spanish-speaking artists gather for an interdisciplinary performance that explores his legacy and contemporary significance. The production combines theatre, flamenco, dance, music, performance, and visual elements rooted in Lorca's texts and life - engaging them in dialogue with present-day experiences of migration, identity, freedom, oppression, and peace.

The audience encounters scenes and texts from Blood Wedding, Gypsy Ballads, and The House of Bernarda Alba, but this is not a traditional Lorca production. The fourth wall is broken, and the audience is drawn into the scenic situation rather than sitting as passive spectators.

The performance is inspired by La Barraca, the theatre group Lorca founded during the Second Spanish Republic in 1931, where theatre functioned as a shared space for art, dialogue, and historical memory. That ambition continues here - as a collective artistic investigation of what Lorca's works can tell us in a Danish, migrant, and intercultural present.
