Go-home meeting: Green energy policy and nuclear power - should the ban be lifted? · CEPOS, Copenhagen

Nuclear power and green energy debate: Wednesday 18 November 2026, 16:00–18:00, CEPOS, Copenhagen. Tickets cost 0–50 kr.

Nuclear power has returned to the Danish energy policy agenda after decades of silence. Climate change, rising energy demand, supply security, and the desire for stable, competitive prices have raised the question anew: should nuclear power be part of future green energy policy?

The debate is no longer confined to experts, and Danish public opinion appears to be shifting. A Voxmeter poll from May 2025 showed that 57.8% of Danes believe Denmark should explore the possibility of introducing nuclear power in the long term, while 48.3% simultaneously agree or strongly agree that Denmark should instead invest more in wind and solar energy. The figures point to a desire for a more open and technology-neutral debate, even though disagreement remains about nuclear power's role. The government has also launched analytical work on new nuclear technologies and small modular reactors, which will examine the energy system, regulation, regulatory structure, competencies, and business interests.

CEPOS invites you to a conversation about green energy policy, technology neutrality, and nuclear power's possible role in Denmark. Should Denmark continue its current course with solar, wind, and grid expansion, or should nuclear power be opened up as a stable, CO2-free energy source? And how can a green transition be ensured that is also realistic, affordable, and robust? The event examines how Denmark can pursue a green energy policy that not only sounds good on paper but can also deliver the energy citizens and businesses need.

Confirmed speakers include Lars Aagaard, former minister for climate, energy and supply (M), and Jan Blomgren, professor of nuclear physics. More speakers to be announced.
