Animated Sickwalker - Qlab artistic development · Warehouse9, Copenhagen

Animated Sickwalker - artistic development: 14 December – 27 December 2026, Warehouse9, Copenhagen.

Animated Sickwalker is a newly established interdisciplinary performance project created in collaboration between performance artist Kat Staub and animator Sara Koppel. The project draws on Kat's performative exploration of inherited chronic illness and alternative sexuality, combined with Sara Koppel's hand-drawn 2D animation. The two artists' practices meet in surrealist confrontations with inherited dysfunction, in spaces that are both dark and humorously kinky, and in a narrative style that is simultaneously experimental and classical. The project is rooted in a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and seeks, through the cultivation of professional traditions, to highlight the value of handmade art in new formats.

Kat Staub is a choreographer and performance artist, trained at Universität der Künste in Berlin. Since 2020, she has developed her interdisciplinary method through work with cabaret and drag, as well as in hybrid performances that combine unconventional puppetry, dynamic vocal work, and dance. Kat also teaches performance, with experience teaching teenagers and young adults.

Sara Koppel is an award-winning animator and one of the last artists in Denmark working with hand-drawn animation. With 35 years of experience, she has built a practice and film production that moves through emotional, psychedelic journeys about family, gender, climate catastrophe, and bodily states. Today she runs the animation studio Naked Love Film in Copenhagen.

Animated Sickwalker is part of Qlab - Warehouse9's laboratory for artistic development. The residency period concludes with a public screening - more information to follow.

The project is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation. Warehouse9 is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation and the Municipality of Copenhagen.
