The Language Prizes: The Swan and The Duckling
Kulturstationen Vanløse, Copenhagen
This evening celebrates the presentation of the Svanen Prize to Dorte Roholte and the Ællingen Prize to Ewa Debsika. The Svanen Prize is awarded to someone who has made an exemplary contribution to the Danish language through speech, writing, or communication. The Ællingen Prize - the more playful younger sibling - goes to someone who uses language creatively, though with room for improvement.
The programme includes speeches, occasional songs, and a large buffet featuring dishes inspired by H.C. Andersen.
The event is organized by Den Danske Sprogkreds, which works to strengthen and preserve the Danish language as part of Danish culture. Sprogkredsen publishes the journal Sprogkræsen, has produced several books on proverbs and idioms, and holds language-related events throughout the year. The event is open to all with an interest in the Danish language. Registration is required at DenDanskeSprogkreds@gmail.com.
