In 2020, Henriette Thiim took a leave from her career job and rode her motorcycle towards Africa. The trip was supposed to last a year, but it became three, and she ended up riding 100,000 km through 45 countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Using drone footage and photographs, she tells among other things about being stuck in Morocco for six months during corona, about the route through Angola, which most travellers avoid, about contracting malaria in Tanzania, and about how unrest in East Africa forced her to change plans. The return journey went through Saudi Arabia and Iraq, where she rode with military escort through the heat.
The lecture is about more than just the journey itself. Henriette also talks about leaving a secure career job, about travelling alone as a woman through countries few visit - and almost none by motorcycle - about the fear of sounds outside the tent at night, and about a night spent in an Iraqi military camp in the middle of the Syrian desert. Ultimately, the story is about daring to take the leap and pursue a dream.
Previous audiences have described the lecture as "a really exciting and beautiful lecture" (Frede Holm Dahl, Rødekro), "told vividly" with "fantastic beautiful pictures and film clips" (Malene Salholt, Blåbjerg), "probably the best travel lecture I've been to" (Morten Hilde, Skive) and as a lecture where she "opened her heart and shared moments of doubt, strength and joy" (Jelena Seidel, Farum).
