The 1977 Warsaw Pact Coastal Front - Online Lecture: Thursday 5 November 2026, 12:30–13:15, Hovedbiblioteket, Viborg. Admission is free.

Senior researcher Stig Roar Svenningsen from the Royal Danish Library presents this online lecture on a plan completed by the Polish General Staff in 1977: an attack on NATO countries in northwestern Europe, including Denmark.

Based on new research, he examines how the plan could have affected both Denmark and the Viborg region - not only through military operations, but also through attacks on critical infrastructure such as the power grid, transport, and fuel supply.

The plan was never implemented. The lecture explores what it nevertheless reveals about preparedness at the time, and what parallels might be drawn to challenges today.
