Grandmother's Food at ANKER · ANKER, Copenhagen
Description was written before the event

On Friday, October 9, ANKER serves traditional grandmother's food - classic dishes from two handwritten grandmother cookbooks, made from scratch.

The appetizer costs 55 kr., and you can choose between the house's fried or spiced-marinated herring, or the day's herring. You can also order schnapps: Krone, Nordguld, or O.P. Andersen.

Main course and dessert cost 195 kr.: sailor's stew with slow-simmered meat, braised veal in crushed onions and potatoes, served with homemade pickled beetroot, leeks, sourdough rye bread, lard, and butter. For dessert, rainbow ice cream with homemade old-fashioned waffles.

If you choose ANKER Deluxe for 295 kr., you get an appetizer, main course, dessert, a schnapps, and a draft beer, glass of wine, or water.

The dishes come from two grandmothers' recipes. One grandmother, who would have been around 110 years old today, started as a young maid and later worked as a cook and housekeeper for wealthy families in the villa districts north of Copenhagen. Over a long life in the kitchen, she collected a range of classic recipes, now found in the old handwritten cookbook - just like her partner's grandmother's cookbook. Together they recreate the two recipes in ANKER's kitchen every Friday in October, as a tribute to old Danish food culture.
