The South Jutland Nurse - Caroline's Life and World

Rasmus Nielsen was born in Sønderborg, grew up in Ribe, and now lives in Copenhagen. He holds a degree in literary studies and has worked as a cultural mediator, editor, and radio producer - storytelling has always been his focus.

He is the author of the novel series The South Jutland Nurse, inspired by his own great-grandmother's life. The Caroline series comprises three volumes: Lette bølge når du blåner, Før violerne blomstrer igen, and Nu blunder den lyse nat. We follow young Caroline from Sønderborg in 1912 to Copenhagen and on to London, where she trains as a nurse - set against the backdrop of World War I and the 1920 reunification, when South Jutland became part of Denmark again after 56 years.

This evening, Rasmus shares the six years it took to shape Caroline's story: the sources, the research, and the personal traces that brought the novels to life.
