When We Sing: Communal Singing as Preparedness · Kolding Bibliotek, Kolding

When We Sing - Communal Singing: Wednesday 21 October 2026, 16:00–16:50, Kolding Bibliotek, Kolding.

Communal singing has a unique power: it brings people together and has historically served as a form of cultural glue in turbulent times, including during war. During the pandemic, communal singing - even if done separately - was also a steady anchor for many.

On Preparedness Day, communal singing takes place on the library square. Songs from the Højskolesangbogen (a Danish folk-song collection) are sung with a focus on freedom and community - values that take on added weight when society is under pressure.

The idea is that communal singing is more than music - it is a way to meet and create connection, and to feel part of a community, which is also central to preparedness when everyday life changes.

Songbooks will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. The event is hosted by Helene Eiler Ernst from Sangkraft Kolding and librarian Kristoffer Harboe, who also organizes the library's regular winter concept "Song of the Month".
