CSFF | Talk: Animation As Documentary Language · Union, Copenhagen
Free entry

Animation as documentary language - masterclass: Saturday 7 November 2026, 11:00–12:30, Union, Copenhagen. Admission is free.

Animator and filmmaker Martina Scarpelli discusses animation as a documentary language, drawing on her own work: the short film EGG (her first professional short), TRINE ON FIRE by Alexander Lind (where she served as animation director), and the ongoing documentary I AM EVERY WOMAN.

The masterclass moves between personal narrative, hybrid film, and documentary practice, exploring the relationship between truth and fiction, and how animation can expand the way we represent reality on film. Behind-the-scenes material will be shown, and Scarpelli will share reflections on workflows between live-action and animation, as well as experiences from interdisciplinary collaboration.

Martina Scarpelli is an award-winning Italian director, animator, producer, and creative director based in Denmark. With a background in visual art and animation, she works with film, audiovisual experiences, and cultural productions. She has received more than 50 international awards, and her short film EGG was shortlisted for the César Awards 2020 and nominated for best short film at the European Animation Awards. She is co-founder of the Viborg-based PLASTIC Collective and creative director for audiovisual productions at Museum Wibergis.

Arranged in collaboration with Filmværksted Viborg.
