What should we be able to do when the world becomes uncertain?
Most people know the official prepping list: water, batteries, and canned food. But what should we be able to do culturally and as human beings, and together with each other, if everyday life begins to crack? This question is explored at Culture's Prepping Dinner, where local citizens and cultural actors - writers, musicians, architects, chefs, artists, and others - gather around a shared long table.
Preparedness might be just as much about being able to do things together: knowing your neighbors, being able to tell a story or sing a song from memory, knowing how to bring people together, and creating meaning, hope, and community when familiar structures are challenged.
The dinner lasts around two hours and features a special prepping menu for both the stomach and the conversation. Throughout the evening, the conversation is facilitated through questions and small techniques that draw on participants' different experiences, perspectives, and ideas. You don't need to know anything about preparedness beforehand, and there are no right answers - all that is required is a willingness to listen, think out loud, eat a little, and actively contribute to the conversation.
Practical info: There are a limited number of seats, so remember to book a free ticket via the link, and only sign up if you can participate throughout the entire event. The conversation will be documented in photos and audio. Culture's Prepping Dinner was developed by NXT in collaboration with Culture's Institute of Analysis, Together on Preparedness, Østifterne, and DR.
The event is part of the theme day "Together on Preparedness", which the library is hosting together with DR, Danish Folk Education Council, and Østifterne. Throughout the day, the library offers lectures, activities, and conversations about preparedness, and some activities require a free ticket - the programme is published continuously on aakb.dk and on Facebook.
