Free entry

Author Talk with Søren Ulrik Thomsen: Monday 7 December 2026, 17:00–18:00, Hovedbiblioteket, Copenhagen. Admission is free.

How is the past present in the present, and the present in the past one remembers? And can one even choose among one's own poems as if they were children? On the occasion of his 70th birthday and the publication of "Selected Poems", poet Søren Ulrik Thomsen has reread his own body of work and selected the texts that, in his view, have endured.

In the conversation, Thomsen discusses the relationship between past, present and future, about time and memory, and about life as a poet compared to life as a poem. Søren Ulrik Thomsen made his debut in 1981 with City Slang and has since written numerous award-winning poetry collections and prose works, most recently Store Kongensgade 23 (2021) and Selected Poems (2026).

The conversation is moderated by editor Janus Lauritsen, and ample time is set aside for questions from the audience. The event is part of Copenhagen Central Library's talk series with the magazines RÆSON and ÆRA, where prominent voices are invited on stage to discuss the world yesterday, today and tomorrow with literature as the starting point. In connection with the event, RÆSON and ÆRA also offer special deals to the audience.

The event takes place live at Copenhagen Central Library, 4th floor, Store Scene. Free entry with ticket, but seats cannot be reserved and sightlines to the stage are limited from certain seats. The stage area is accessed by taking the elevator or stairs to the right when entering the Central Hall from Krystalgade, or by following the escalators to the 3rd floor and then the stairs to the right up to the 4th floor.
