Book Reception - Jewish History in Aarhus During World War II

Book Reception - Jewish History: Thursday 5 November 2026, 16:30–18:00, Dansk Jødisk Museum, Copenhagen. Admission is free.

Historians have long assumed that only a handful of Jews in Aarhus fled during the "October Action" in 1943. New sources tell a different story: at least 62 people with Jewish backgrounds were forced to confront Nazi persecution. Their stories are now being collected and documented for the first time in the book "Jewish History in Aarhus During World War II" by Klaus Bertelsen, based on previously unknown diaries, photo albums, and thorough source research.

The book launch will feature remarks from Janus Møller Jensen, director of the Danish Jewish Museum, and Julie Rokkjær Birch, director of Den Gamle By in Aarhus. Author Klaus Bertelsen will discuss some of the remarkable sources he uncovered during his research. Light refreshments will be served.
