Advanced Hand-Building Ceramics Course with Manuel Canu · Vesterbro Bibliotek og Kulturhus, Copenhagen

Advanced Hand-Building Ceramics with Manuel Canu: Tuesday 8 December 2026, 17:00–21:00, Vesterbro Bibliotek og Kulturhus, Copenhagen. Tickets cost 3200 kr.

This course is for those who have already completed a basic ceramics course and want to deepen and challenge your practice further. Teaching is structured around a series of theme-based projects - each session takes its starting point in a creative theme, such as botanical forms, architectural elements, or abstract design, which you interpret in your own work.

Before each session, you prepare inspiration material such as sketches, photographs, found objects, or mood boards. This strengthens your ability to work independently and purposefully with idea development and design. Throughout the course, you build coherent projects that both sharpen your technical skills and your personal artistic voice, and you are introduced to more advanced techniques such as plaster mold-making and slip casting.

There is also a focus on a conscious and sustainable working process: you are encouraged to work deeply and reflectively with materials and energy consumption, so professional development and quality are prioritized over quantity. You have 8 kilos of clay available, and a maximum of 2 extra kilos can be purchased at the workshop.

The course is suitable for you if you have completed a basic course and are ready for the next level - teaching is tailored to each participant, so feedback matches your level and ambitions. It is taught by ceramicist Manuel Canu, who has many years of experience with sculptural ceramics and has exhibited internationally. He currently runs a ceramics workshop and gallery in Copenhagen together with other artists.

In the ceramics workshops at Vesterbro Library and Cultural Centre, everyone contributes to a healthy and clean working environment. The course fee covers instruction and materials, and participants are expected to help with tidying up and share responsibility for maintaining the workshop together with other users.
