From Memory to Story - Free Writing Workshop with Author Ole Ditlev Nielsen

From Memory to Story - Writing Workshop: Wednesday 25 November 2026, 15:30–18:00, Copenhagen. Admission is free.
An afternoon of quiet writing and company for anyone who wants to get their memories down on paper - for children and grandchildren, for family, or just for yourself. Many carry stories that deserve to be told: a childhood home, a father, a summer, a move, a choice that changed everything. The hard part is rarely remembering - it's getting started and shaping loose memories into a story others want to read. The workshop gives you both a talk about the journey from memory to story and two hours of focused writing time with others on the same mission.
The programme: At 15:30, author Ole Ditlev Nielsen welcomes you with a talk about choosing your memories, finding concrete details, and creating scenes in your own voice. From 16:00, participants write for two hours using the Pomodoro method - focused intervals with short breaks. At 18:00 there is informal chat and networking.
In his talk, Ole draws on his own experience writing about the past, most recently from the novel "19:89", which is set in the 1980s and 90s. During writing time you can work on your own project or use the writing exercises provided, designed to help from the first image to a complete scene. There is no reading aloud, no feedback rounds, and no pressure - what you write is your own.
Participation is free, but places are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so registration is required. You are welcome to bring one or two friends, but each person needs a ticket. Bring a laptop or notebook, and ideally a photograph or object with a memory attached. Coffee, tea and light food can be bought in the house café, which is close to Ørestad Station and easily reached by metro, bus or car. On the day, Ole's books will be sold at special prices, including "19:89" and "SKRIV - sådan bliver du forfatter".
