Jeppe Aakjær grew up on a farm by Karup Å and despite poverty and limited schooling became a student in Copenhagen and later an author.

In the city he engaged in contemporary debates about Christianity, marriage and social inequality, but increasingly longed to return to rural life and the region he had left. At 40, he settled on the farm Jenle, where he attempted to live as both farmer and poet. Through lectures and articles he defended the small family farm - driven by a careful relationship to animals and nature rather than pure material gain.

The event raises the question: can the climate crisis and the failure of modern industrial agriculture give Aakjær renewed relevance? The lecturer is literary historian Hans Peter Thøgersen.
