Sci-fi & climate fiction: Ways into other worlds

Sci-fi & climate fiction - world-building: Tuesday 20 October 2026, 16:30–18:00, Roskilde Bibliotek, Roskilde. Admission is free.

A workshop on world-building - creating other worlds so thoroughly that they feel alive, and in doing so, sharpening our imagination. And if there's something we need right now, it's imagination, community, and faith in the future.

Laura Horn, lecturer at Roskilde University and sci-fi enthusiast, guides us through world-building in solarpunk, climate fiction, and (board) games. We explore what drives world-building, discuss clichés ("a world of hats", for example), and consider why sometimes you have to let go of being cynical. Everyone is welcome to share their own experiences and worlds.

With this event, Roskilde Libraries step outside their usual framework and collaborate with another cultural actor in Roskilde - this time Gimle. Local librarian Susan Jessen Spiele will recommend sci-fi novels and help you find your next great read.

About Laura Horn: Laura Horn is a lecturer at the Department of Social Sciences and Business at Roskilde University. She is also a sci-fi enthusiast and author of "The Handbook of Global Politics in the 22nd Century" (2023), through which she established an entirely new literary genre - academic science fiction.
