Climate Crisis: What is Happening and What Can We Do?

Climate Crisis - lecture with Sebastian Mernild: Thursday 29 October 2026, 19:00–20:45, Valby Bibliotek, Copenhagen. Admission is free.

Climate Conversations: Climate change is already underway - but how will the crisis develop in the coming decades, and what does it mean for nature, for us, and for the society we live in?

Professor Sebastian Mernild is one of the world's leading researchers on climate change and global warming. He has previously stated: "We will see countries that are completely devastated, and we will see large numbers of people who need to find a new place to live." In the lecture, he reviews the latest knowledge in the field - the development trends researchers are seeing, what we can expect in the future, and what consequences rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, extreme weather, and rising sea levels can bring. He also examines the possibilities for action: what can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and what solutions and transformations are necessary to limit climate change?

The lecture provides both a picture of where we stand today, a glimpse into the future we are moving towards, and perspectives on what we and society can do. It takes place on October 29 as part of #Climate Conversations - a collaboration between volunteers from Valby Local Council's Environmental Group and Valby Library, which since 2023 has created local dialogue about global challenges.

Coffee, tea, and snacks are provided, and there is space to listen and talk. Questions can be sent to librarian Mads Kusk at makusk@kk.dk.
