In 2002, the album Guld emerged on the Danish music scene - quietly, but with a sound that lingered. The band behind it was Klondyke, and the songs quickly proved to be something special. Twenty-five years after the band's start, Klondyke now returns in its original line-up, with the musicians who created the group's first and most distinctive releases.
Klondyke broke through in 2002 via DR's KarriereKanonen and released their debut album Guld that same year, which received strong reviews and a nomination for the Steppeulven Prize for both Band of the Year and Lyricist of the Year. Critics particularly noted Mikael K's ability to transform everyday observations into poetic narratives, where love, longing, and humour go hand in hand. Musically, the band moves between pop, folk ballads, folk, and Americana - a form of Danish roots music that draws on both C.V. Jørgensen, Kim Larsen, and American alt-country.
Since their debut, Klondyke has released several albums, including Lille Vampyr (2003), Verdensmand (2006), and Dejlig Dum (2008), and has received numerous nominations at Steppeulven and DMA Folk. Later albums such as Udkantsland and Sange fra Nord have cemented the band's place as one of the most original voices in Danish-language songwriting. At the centre stands songwriter Mikael K, whose songs contain both love-struck city dwellers and eccentric characters from the provinces - figures who meet, part, and long for "somewhere else", while melancholy and humour follow one another.
For the 25th anniversary, the original quartet behind the first three albums reunites:
● Mikael K - vocals, guitar, banjo and more
● Nikolaj Heyman - electric guitar, organ and vocals
● Per Lange - drums and vocals
● Anton Johannes Hejl - bass and theremin
The band plays songs from the classic releases live, but not as a museum piece - there is room for improvisation, tempo changes, and new interpretations. The programme includes songs such as "Mon det regner i New York", "Sæbepulver Johnny", "Blind Passager", and "15 graders frost".
