Author Evening with Niels Krause-Kjær

Journalist and author Niels Krause-Kjær presents "Ude for uden" - the book that won the Readers' Book Prize 2026.

The novel is fiction, but based on a concrete discovery: a travel journal kept by Krause-Kjær's father and his folk high school friends over half a century, which the author found in the Danish National Archives. Using this as a starting point, he depicts how rural culture was displaced in just two generations in favor of big-city values - and what the provinces lost in the process. The cover image of the farmhouse is his own childhood home, photographed just days before it was demolished.
