Saxophonist Cecilie Strange, pianist Takako Yamada and bassist Kenneth Dahl Knudsen bring their new trio to KunstSmedjen på Musicon in Roskilde on Saturday, 23 January. The trio explores the meeting of Danish and Japanese folk music through an open, improvisational approach - listening as the core practice, where traditional melodies encounter the contemporary. This is one of four Danish dates on the tour, which also includes stops in Arden, Frederiksberg and Taastrup. KunstSmedjen på Musicon is a user-run cultural venue with galleries, artist studios and open workshops, hosting music and theatre on its stage. Admission is 50-200 kr.

About the venue: KunstSmedjen på Musicon

KunstSmedjen på Musicon is a volunteer-run cultural centre with six small galleries, artist studios, open workshops, an art school and a stage for music and theatre. Exhibitions change roughly every three weeks, covering both Danish and international art. The stage hosts concerts, theatre performances and other events throughout the year, while a café serves refreshments. The centre is run by the association Kunst på Musicon, independent of public funding, and is housed in a former concrete factory in Roskilde's creative Musicon district - free admission daily 12:00-16:00.

About: Kenneth Dahl Knudsen

Kenneth Dahl Knudsen is a Danish double bassist and composer, born in 1984 and raised in North Jutland. He has released the albums "Strings Attached" and "Clockstopper" and leads the sextet ATLAS, which draws jazz, classical and roots traditions together. He also teaches at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus and Aalborg.
