The World at Stake: Europe's Hour with Lykke Friis — Nakskov Bibliotek, Nakskov

Europe stands at a crossroads. War in the region, political turmoil, climate crisis and technological competition place new demands on European cooperation - and on us as citizens. In this lecture, Lykke Friis offers her perspective on how recent developments - from Brexit and migration to climate and geopolitics - are shaping the Europe we wake up to tomorrow.

The lecture draws on the book "Europe's Hour", which Lykke Friis has written together with Søren Pind. The book is a personal and political conversation about Europe's fate, the mistakes of the past and the possibilities of the future.

Lykke Friis is a specialist in European politics with a particular focus on Germany. She is director of the think tank Europa, former pro-rector at the University of Copenhagen and chair of the Danish Foreign Policy Society. She has also served as minister for climate, energy and gender equality and has published several books on the EU and Germany.

This lecture is the first in the series "The World at Stake", running through autumn 2026 at Nakskov Library:
• Wednesday 9 September, 7-9 pm: Europe's Hour with EU expert Lykke Friis
• Thursday 8 October, 7-9 pm: The Endless Wars in the Middle East with security policy adviser Jacob Kaarsbo
• Thursday 5 November, 7-9 pm: USA after the midterm elections with international commentator Birgitte Borup
