Writing Workshop: On Addressing

Who does the text speak to - and what happens when it addresses a 'you'? This workshop explores the listening receiver: how it is constructed, animated, and shapes the text from within.

Participants work with texts that exist in the borderland between letter, poem, and note. Drawing on Iris Murdoch's thoughts on attention as a moral category, the workshop investigates whether a portrait is a sleight of hand - or something worse. The work of Frank O'Hara, Sebastian Nathan, Edith Södergran, Forough Farrokhzad, James Schuyler, and Patricia Cavalli serves as a starting point for writing in the field between the intimate and the ecstatic.

The format alternates between short writing exercises and concrete text examples with space for conversation and feedback throughout.

Instructor: Caroline Albertine Minor is an author and literary translator, educated at the Danish Writers' School and with a background in anthropology from the University of Copenhagen. She debuted with the novel Pura vida (2013) and later published the short story collection Velsignelser (2017), which won the Strunge Prize and the P.O. Enquist Prize, among others. Her third book Hummerens skjold (2020), like Velsignelser, has been sold for publication in several countries. In 2024, the poetry collection Nivå Bugt Strandenge was published, and in June 2025 the novel Den forelskede ven.

The workshop is free and open to adults, 17:00-19:00. Registration via Billetto. The venue is Salen on the 3rd floor - accessible via the main staircase or elevator from the library's main entrance. Bring a laptop and/or paper and pen; there are no desks, so expect to hold things in your lap. No refreshments are served, so bring your own water and snacks.
