Walk in photographer Julie Rønnow's footsteps: City walk through Vesterbro's courtyards

Copenhagen's courtyards hold stories of everyday life, community, and tight living conditions. On this city walk, historian Trine Halle unfolds the history of courtyards as a setting for childhood and housing - how they were arranged, who lived there, and what role they played as playgrounds, workspaces, and gathering places in many Copenhageners' daily lives.

The walk connects to the museum's special exhibition Copenhagen in Light & Shadow, featuring photographs by Julie Rønnow and art by Julie Boserup. In the 1960s, Julie Rønnow began exploring the city's courtyards on walks with her daughter in a pram, documenting the intimate city with her camera. On the walk, we follow in her footsteps and gain a historical and visual perspective on the courtyards' significance in the city's development.
