Hunting with the Ocean's Giants

Earth's largest animals have long lived hidden lives far out at sea, but new technology now allows researchers to follow whales' behaviour and hunting beneath the surface. In this lecture, we get up close with them.

We follow the world's smallest whale, the harbour porpoise, hunting in Danish waters, and with deep-sea cameras we see how the world's largest toothed whale - the sperm whale - finds food at depths of more than 1,000 metres. We also hear how a Greenland whale avoids freezing to death while living on billions of tiny prey in Disko Bay, and how a humpback whale mother can feed and nurse a calf without eating anything for half a year.
