Meet the Volunteer Beekeepers
LIVING MUSEUM / recurring / Free with museum admission
Meet Det Grønne Museum's volunteer beekeepers as they tend the museum's historic apiary between Gl. Estrup's farm buildings and the Smithy - close to forest and meadow.
The apiary houses various historic beehive types and shows the development of beekeeping from around 1850 to today. A total of 15 bee colonies live here and are cared for by volunteer beekeepers, whose work follows the bees' life and the seasons. It is especially during the summer period that the beekeepers visit the bees and hives, and at the apiary they are happy to tell about the bees' world and show how it unfolds in the historic hives.
Honey from the apiary is sold in the museum shop and at selected events, including the museum's Christmas market.
