Zadie Smith - Livestream

Brønshøj Bibliotek presents a livestreamed conversation with Zadie Smith, who is visiting the International Authors' Stage in October. The conversation is in English, and no registration is required - simply show up on the 1st floor at the citizen services desk.

Smith (b. 1975) debuted with the novel White Teeth in 2000 and has since written essays, short stories, plays, children's books, and novels. In Danish, her most recent publications are The Fraud (2024) and an essay collection. Her work explores encounters across generations, cultures, and classes - often in multicultural settings with characters of diverse social, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.

The occasion for her visit is receiving the H.C. Andersen Literary Prize 2026, which is awarded at the Black Diamond. The prize honours authors whose genre or narrative style bears traces of H.C. Andersen's works, and previous recipients include Paulo Coelho, J.K. Rowling, Isabel Allende, Haruki Murakami, and Margaret Atwood. It consists of a bronze sculpture "The Ugly Duckling" by sculptor Stine Ring Hansen, a diploma, and 500,000 Danish kroner.
