When the Seabed Dies, and What We Can Do About It — Biblioteket Augustenborg, Augustenborg

Senior researcher Jørgen L. S. Hansen from Aarhus University presents a lecture on the collapse of benthic fauna in Kattegat and several Danish fjords. Since the mid-1990s, species diversity on the seabed has declined sharply, and large quantities of bottom-dwelling organisms have disappeared from food chains - with serious consequences for the entire ecosystem, including bottom fish and cod.

The lecture examines the mechanisms that take effect when a marine environment loses its balance: why life does not necessarily return even when water quality improves, and what is needed for nature to recover. There is also a focus on local waters: Als Fjord, Aabenraa Fjord, and Augustenborg Fjord.

The lecture is aimed at everyone with an interest in the sea, fjords, fishing, nature conservation, and the management of our coastal waters.
