Bach's Christmas Oratorio opens with timpani and trumpets in "Jauchzet, frohlocket!" (Rejoice, be glad!), and the intensity is present from the first measure when the choir enters.

The work depicts the birth of Jesus through festive choruses, lyrical arias, and recitatives, where the evangelists Luke and Matthew guide the story forward.

Conductor Henrik Schaefer leads the Philharmonic Choir. The soloists will be announced later.

About the venue: Koncertsalen Alsion

Koncertsalen Alsion in Sønderborg is the main concert hall for the whole of Southern Jutland, with seating for up to 988 guests. The programme ranges from classical music and opera to stand-up, comedy and lectures, with Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester as a regular resident ensemble. The hall is constructed as two concrete shells, one inside the other, keeping outside noise at bay and giving it acoustics that performers consistently praise. The 20-metre-wide stage can be adjusted hydraulically to depths of 6, 9 or 12 metres.
